E Ink's SDCs are a low-power ePaper reflective display technology that enables engineers and designers to add a thin, rugged, daylight readable display to a vareity of consumer electronics, PC-accessory, display smartcards, capacity indicators, electronic shelf lables, signage and communications applications. E Ink's SDC product family, while using the same basic technology as it's matrix product family, caters to a different set of markets and applications - those that require alpha-numberic and icon based information to make critical decisions.

E Ink Segmented EPD cells help to make your product stand out with their bright, bold look and unlimited viewing angle. The fact that no power is required to view an image greatly extends battery life and allows for unique design opportunities not open to conventional technology. The lightweight, shatterproof plastic display cells are conformable, giving product designers the ability to design curved applications.

Segmented displays are divided into discrete segments that can be controlled individually to convey information using letters, numbers and pre-defined icons (see display examples). Customers then add drive electronics and integrate into their end products. The result is a black and white display which is less than 400-microns thick, uses very little power and provides a bright, bold look. A segmented display cell can be as small as 5mmX10mm to a large size of 300mmX300mm, and in virtually any shape.

Lexar Media, Inc. a leader in advanced digital media and accessories, announced plans to add a unique storage capacity meter to its popular USB flash drives by integrating an innovative electronic paper display from E Ink Corporation into a new drive, the JumpDrive Mercury.

The E Ink display is less than 0.7mm, all-plastic, shatter proof bar meter that does not rely on power or require a battery to show the capacity information when disconnected from the computer. This makes it possible for Lexar to add the benefit of an exterior gauge, without sacrificing the light, durable and portable design of its products.
